Maria Nanis was admitted to the bar in 1996 in both New York and Connecticut State Courts. She is also admitted to the United States District Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York where she represented municipal entities against civil rights and employment discrimination claims. Ms. Nanis also practices insurance defense including labor law actions and related insurance coverage disputes. Ms. Nanis has experience in Appellate practice and has successfully argued appeals in both the First and Second Departments.
Maria Nanis graduated from Saint John’s University’s School of Law in 1995. As a member of the Journal of Legal Commentary, she co-authored Victimization as a Defense: Valid Protection for the Innocent or Escape from Criminal Responsibility? an analysis of the battered woman syndrome and its use as a defense to murder.
